Terug. Naar Deel 2.

Part 1.   From Junk . . .

1988.

DAF Truck found abandoned down at the farm in Pennsylvania.

Kaz Wysocki saved the truck from the Farm and took it to New Jersey.

1988 - 2003.

The truck sat in Kaz's warehouse in Hackensack, NJ after being rescued from Pennsylvania. Kaz began some of the restoration work while it was there.

2003.

Truck was loaded & bound for Keene Valley,NY after being purchased by Paul Tryon.

Paul Tryon & '62 Pick-Up type 304.

Unloading the DAF in Keene Valley,NY.

When the truck arrived in Keene Valley, NY it was not running.

A little tinkering to get it to run. Paul's son-in-law tries his hand at being a mechanic.

The truck was in pretty sad condition mechanically and physically. Paul's "mechanic" just had no clue how to get everything to work right.

The floor boards on driver's side pretty well rotted away.

The floorboards on passenger side have been patched in as well.

2005.

It was decided that the Pick-Up needed some TLC. The sad truck was loaded on a flatbed and headed to my workshop in Vermont.

Truck loaded to get a full blown physical & mechanical restoration.

First some new tires & brakes so the truck could actually be moved around to work on it. The entire body was sanded down to reveal the original "Nautina" Blue underneath.

Door pillar & sill all rotted. This truck was going to be a big project.

Driver's side was not much better than the other side.

Time to rip out the rotted door pillar & sill assembly, what a mess I found.

New door pillar & sill plate

Sill & Door Pillar in place on Passenger side.

Driver's side gets a new Outer Sill plate also.

Major "swiss Cheese" rot on fender. Both sides were really bad but typical for a DAF in New England.

Lots of nasty decay at the back side near the tailgate and rear quarter panels.

Rocker panels were very weak.

Cargo bed needs a lot of attention too. Luckily the old wooden bed cover had been removed a long time ago otherwise it would have been much worse.Tailgate & hinges have now been re-installed.

The steel grille & frame needed some welding to make them whole again.

Front grille back together, but not finished yet. The front bumper also mounted.

I just barely had enought of the old side plates to make a pattern for the new ones.

I designed a new Variomatic cover door so it could opened for viewing and work.

Old heating system was shot so I had to design a new one. The original heat/air exchange box was made of pressed cardboard so it was long gone.

2006.

All stripped out and ready for some serious bodywork. The truck is heading for a warm garage for new sheetmetal.

Some new tin for the rocker panels to start.

Lots of new panels for the lower rear quarter sections.

Some final touch ups before the skim coat goes on. Here Bill Halligan (of B&H Auto Body in Danby,VT.) is putting the finishing touches on the outer wheel edge.

Some of the first layers of filler. There will be a lot more coats for a nice smooth panel.

Repairs made on front fenders & skim coated.

Lots of sanding for a smooth finish.

Pick-Up lines are coming back to original. The final coats are being applied before Primer.

Rear section also getting a total make over including a new tailgate edge.

New floor board panels in place & seam sealed.

Both floor plates and sills are completed. Now for some final touches.

Making lots of dust, final touch up on the floor boards.

Doors received the full treatment too. Bottoms were rusted out and had new panel inserted with fiberglass to re-enforce the edges.

Hood & Tailgate in Primer.

Roof had some small dents as well which needed to be taken care of.

First primer coat going on.

Just a final sanding needed now.

Cargo area in epoxy primer. Epoxy primer was used to extra durability.

First coat of color going on.

Engine compartment in color again.

Doors all complete and in color.

Test fitting the new gas filler cover.

First coat of color since 1962.

Final coat on, just needs to be buffed out.

Rear end & cargo area in final paint.

Fresh out of the paint shop.
